Everyone has a story that they may consider boring and uninteresting enough for other people to want to hear. However, when your story is told in the right way, it will be your most powerful tool in your arsenal. If you’re a person who’s always wanted to sell more products or be able to introduce more people to your network marketing business, then story selling is a skill that you definitely need to develop and master.
If you were to learn, apply, and master this one critical skill, how much would that increase your business and income?
Story Selling – The Art of Selling With Stories Without Really Selling
People are naturally drawn to stories. It’s why the world has television, movie, and theater industries. Playwrights have made money for centuries crafting stories. Politicians have been elected to office in part by their ability to tell great stories. It’s how the vast majority of people get comfortable with someone they’ve just met.
The problem most people face when they’re new in sales or in network marketing is that they haven’t developed the skills to sell effectively or to tell stories that use metaphors in a way that compels people to want to buy whatever they have to offer. In the process, they end up pushing people away because they’ve just done the verbal equivalent of vomiting all over them.
When used properly, stories mixed with metaphors are the most powerful tool in a sales person’s toolbox. Here’s an example of how I would use a true story from when I was a truck driver in a compelling way when mixed with a metaphor to invite someone to request more information on my company’s products:
5 Reasons Your “Boring” Story is a Powerful Tool
1. Your story is uniquely yours
You are the only one who has your story. The way you tell your story will determine how engaging it is and how it will be received. So, tell it with energy and enthusiasm. You’ll never know what parts of it can be used to inspire others to be greater than they were yesterday. So, never discount how your story can impact others through what may seem like uninteresting things to you. If you think that your story is boring, then it’s probably the way you tell it to yourself. Improve your mindset (the way you think) and you’ll be able to relate your story in a compelling way – even if it may seem like you’re rummaging through old junk in your past. It can be packaged in a new and exciting way.
2. Your story is something others can relate to
It doesn’t matter how “boring” you think your story is. If you had a hardship that you’ve overcome, the chances are very good that there’s someone in another part of the world (or community) who’s experiencing a similar issue that needs to know everything will be okay and they’ll get through it. Your “boring” story will help inspire and motivate others having similar issues and give them hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
3. Your story helps others to buy from you
As said before, people love to hear stories. It’s how we’re wired and it helps to relate to other people we don’t know. But, a story can be told in a certain way can be a great way for someone to get to know, like, and trust you. When that happens, you’ll have a better chance of them buying whatever you’re selling… as long as you position it correctly to your target audience.
